The huge advantage is that bed and breakfasts (B&B’s) are usually much cheaper than staying in hotels. Some B&B establishments in Scotland are quite large and may well offer dinner. Usually they have a residents lounge where you are able to watch TV or relax. B&B’s are very useful in Scotland in more remote or rural areas.
Guest Houses - A guest house is basically the same as a bed and breakfast apart from the size. in Scotland a guest house usually refers to a larger establishment, perhaps with five or six bedrooms as opposed to two or three found in a bed and breakfast. Guest houses in Scotland are sometimes licenced, meaning they have the right to sell alchohol and almost always have a residents lounge.
