Guest houses in Scotland are sometimes licenced, meaning they have the right to sell alchohol and almost always have a residents lounge.

Hostels - Hostels are an economical way for people to stay the night in various places around Scotland. Usually associated with younger people or backpackers, youth hostels provide very basic accommodation, sometimes in a  larger shared room to tourists travelling on a budget. Most Scottish towns and larger villages have a hostel of some sort.
