Bannockburn is a historic site close to Stirling and the area is now synonymous with Robert The Bruce and his army.

In the 13th and 14th century Robert The Bruce was the Scottish king, and famously defeated the English army (which far outnumbered that of the Scots) at this site in a bloody battle lasting two days. At that time the area of Bannockburn was a sodden marsh and Robert The Bruce used the knowledge of this landscape to good effect during the battle.
